Mid-Carolina IPMS Swamp Foxes Modeler’s Club - Copyright © 2011, All Rights Reserved All Resin 1/48 Kiwi Resin North American RB-51 Red Baron Race Plane The model was first primed with Mr. Surfacer 500 from a spray can. Then Tamiya rattle cans of Racing White and Ferrari  Red were used for the main colors. After the colors were dry and the masking removed it was on to decals. The decals are very thin and thus a little fragile. Careful handing is a must. For others building this bird, Gunze Super  Silver is a match for the silver decal's color. Ferrari Red matches the red in the lettering. The large “Red Baron” on the  underside of the wing is all one large decal. The gear doors must be put in place and then the decal laid in place. Next a  new Xacto blade was used to cut the decals around the parts of the doors they fell on.  Once dry the whole model was  sealed with a second coat of Future to achieve a real glossy finish the Future was then rubbed with a fine polishing cloth. Now I had a 1/48 RB-51 in my collection. I was a difficult but fun build and I am glad that Kiwi gave me the opportunity to  add one to my collection in the proper scale.
